In conjunction with the UMPH Group (UMPHG) Strategic Planning Workshop held from September 1, 2023 (Friday) to September 3, 2023 (Sunday) at Element, Kuala Lumpur, the Integrity and Governance Unit (IGU) of UMPHG conducted a specialized briefing session on the Section 17A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, specifically tailored for the Board of Directors of UMPHG.⁣

The highlight of this exclusive briefing session was the presence and expertise of YBhg. Tan Sri Abu Kassim bin Mohamed, a luminary in the realm of anti-corruption and governance. Tan Sri Abu Kassim, the former Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the former Director General of National Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption (GIACC), brought a wealth of experience and insight to the proceedings.⁣

At the core of this briefing session lay a crucial objective: to provide the esteemed Board of Directors of UMPHG with an in-depth understanding of the provision under Section 17A MACC Act 2009. This pivotal provision establishes the principle of corporate liability, signifying that a commercial organization may be held liable if any of its employees or associates engage in bribery on behalf of the organization. The session also emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of honesty, transparency, and ethical conduct within the organization. It highlighted that promoting open reporting systems is crucial for quickly identifying and dealing with any potential corrupt activities.⁣
